Getting into Trouble with John Oakes

In scene, listening isn’t just waiting for your turn to speak it’s noticing what your scene partner is really giving you and taking every opportunity you can to propel characters forward, what we call “getting into trouble!”
In this advanced workshop, experienced short form player and actor John Oakes will help you explore subtext, emotion, intention, and further offers hidden beneath words. Through playful exercises, we’ll practise responding to what’s actually happening in the moment and discover how deeper listening creates richer, more alive scenes and characters’ arcs the audience care about.

Mime with Justin Brett

Good mime is good space work. One of the great challenges of learning improv is that you’re expected to be able to do immediate, excellent space work, but nobody has been teaching you how. Nobody has been teaching you mime. Until NOW!
In this playful six-hour session, we will look at the basics of mime: fixed point, resistance and weight, object construction, architecture, and The Three Rules! Finally, we’ll pull together our new skills and learn to construct whole environments to play in.
