Falling In Love with Lucy Trodd

It’s been said that “all scenes are love scenes”. Falling in love in improv also means you’re listening and willing to be changed by your scene partner.But, there are so many different types of love to explore in our scene work other than romantic. Love can be expressed in a gesture, and it can bloom in the silence. So, let’s create space, and build nuanced relationships that an audience will really care about.Spend the day discovering your own boundaries and respectfully identify others’ tells. Lucy’s loves to create a safe space so you can do your best work- you’ll leave feeling the love.

Improvising Shakespeare with Oliver Senton

The London Improvathon team is excited to offer this Saturday intensive workshop with veteran player Oliver Senton.
‘Verse is Easy and the Language is Simple’
Poetry can be a barrier for some improvisers; like it has a big fence around, with a sign saying NOT FOR YOU. And Shakespeare can be that many times over. But that’s mostly in our heads, and none of it is Shakespeare’s fault – improvising in his style isn’t nearly as hard as you think it is.
Delight in fluency you didn’t realise you could have in bringing The Bard’s ‘Lost Plays’ to life – not in an ironic, commenty way, but as real drama.
This workshop is about plugging in to the heart and rhythms of Shakespeare’s voice, having fun with throwing it all over the place, then dragging it down into the scene again. Take a risk. Take a leap.

Getting into Trouble with John Oakes

In scene, listening isn’t just waiting for your turn to speak it’s noticing what your scene partner is really giving you and taking every opportunity you can to propel characters forward, what we call “getting into trouble!”
In this advanced workshop, experienced short form player and actor John Oakes will help you explore subtext, emotion, intention, and further offers hidden beneath words. Through playful exercises, we’ll practise responding to what’s actually happening in the moment and discover how deeper listening creates richer, more alive scenes and characters’ arcs the audience care about.

Mime with Justin Brett

Good mime is good space work. One of the great challenges of learning improv is that you’re expected to be able to do immediate, excellent space work, but nobody has been teaching you how. Nobody has been teaching you mime. Until NOW!
In this playful six-hour session, we will look at the basics of mime: fixed point, resistance and weight, object construction, architecture, and The Three Rules! Finally, we’ll pull together our new skills and learn to construct whole environments to play in.
